Longhorn Thoroughbreds

This beautiful farm is located in a pleasant mix of open fields and pine groves near Warsaw, North Carolina. The 10-stall horse barn includes an office, wash and veterinarian areas, feed and tack rooms, toilet and laundry areas, a 16' center aisle and 16' x 16' stalls with inner and outer doors.

Also included near the 100' x 200' indoor arena are large tack-up or saddling areas. The indoor arena includes covered cattle pens at one end and a covered connection between the barn and arena to allow for the loading and unloading of horses safely in any kind of weather. A 3,000 square foot second floor residence above the barn affords magnificent views of the farm and includes a balcony into the indoor arena.

Spear-Cross Land and Livestock (QH)

The facilities at Spear-Cross Land and Livestock were designed for Mr. Henry Brown, one of today's premier breeders of racing Quarter Horses. Key features of the farm include the new 34-stall barn and breeding facilities, 120'x240' covered arena, and hay/bedding/equipment storage building. The state-of-the-art masonry horse barn includes 32-14'x14' stalls and 2-28'x14' foaling stalls with an overhead lift/harness system. All stalls utilize open-view stall fronts and exterior stall doors that can be opened for maximum natural lighting and ventilation, as well as Nelson waterers, interlocking rubber floor mats, and other premium equipment. The advanced breeding and lab area includes an office with windows overlooking the foaling stalls.


Frank Merrill's Windward Stud & The Royal Santana Arena

Over the past 16 years, Gralla Architects has continuously improved and expanded this farm's operations. Today, it is considered to be one of the most beautiful and complete training and breeding farms in the Southwest.

The recently added Royal Santana Arena was designed for daily training, as well as for hosting invitational events. It features a 120'x220' arena floor, plus 50' on each end housing wash areas, holding areas, tack room, cattle pens and chutes. The side walls incorporate roll-up doors so the entire arena can be opened during fair weather. The arena utilizes some of the finest specialty materials and equipment avialable, including rubber brick flooring and wall safety surfaces, remote-controlled cattle chutes and a computer-controlled artificial training cow. The arena complex also includes outdoor rings at both ends and public restrooms and showers.

Speetzen Residence and Equestrian Facilities

This new residence and equestrian facility is located on three five-acre lots in Horseshoe Bay, Texas. The development area was specifically planned for residents who wish to operate small ranches, and enable the residents to build their own horse facilities. This is the first facility of its type in Horseshoe Bay. The main residence is 6,000 square feet, plus a 5-car garage and extensive landscaped terraces overlooking the horse pastures. The horse barn includes four large stalls, vet area, wash area, tack room, feed room, and lounge. The facility also includes a 60'x120' indoor arena and 800 square foot caretaker's apartment. All facilities are interconnected via covered or enclosed walkways. The dominant architectural style is southwestern, with natural stucco walls, clay tile flooring inside and out, natural formed wood beams and columns, hand-laid brick drives, fountains and other architectural features. Two existing ponds were drained, reformed, and lined to ensure their available use for irrigation and fire emergencies.

Diamond G Racing Stables & Stallion Farm

Gralla Architects was commissioned to prepare the master plan for this complete race training facility and breeding center located on 200 acres. The master plan includes the following facilities and features:

  • Farm manager's residence with secure entry point for main stable area.
  • 24-stall training barn including wash and veterinary area, tack rooms and farm offices.
  • 6-stall mare foaling barn with paddocks.
  • Stallion barn with veterinary area, lab, and breeding shed.
  • 60'x120' indoor arena/exercise barn.
  • Equipment and hay/bedding storage building.
  • 5/8 mile banked dirt training track with chutes, break-away rails, and observation building.
  • A highly efficient pasture, paddock, lane and service drive layout utilizing PVC fencing.
  • 6000 square foot owner's residence overlooking the training center.

Knox Farm

This quarter horse broodmare farm located near Fayetteville, Arkansas includes the following primary facilities:

  • 10-stall mare barn with tack and feed, foaling stalls, vet area, office, and lounge areas.
  • Exercise barn with covered round pen and overhead walker.
  • Service barn with hay, tool, vehicle, and equipment storage.
  • Paddock and pasture areas with loafing sheds and heated Nelson pedestal waterers.

The mare barn, exercise barn, and service barn, which utilize native stone and wood tree columns, are arranged to form a courtyard area with a sculpture centerpiece. Other architectural materials utilized include open view stall doors, metal roofing, concrete masonry walls, and stucco finishes.
